The Great Global Pause

In this episode, host Junie Swadron talks to fellow author, Maggie Reidy.

Maggie is a registered clinical counsellor with over 25 years experience accompanying humans of all ages on their healing journeys. She says that she cannot imagine doing any other kind of work that would be more meaningful and a better fit for who she is as a person.

Maggie is grateful to live with her family in the infinite beauty that nature provides on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. She respectfully acknowledges the Lekwungen Peoples, particularly the Esquimalt, Songhees, and WSANEC Nations on whose traditional territories she lives, plays, works, and raises her children. Maggie fully acknowledges the ongoing impact of colonialism and looks for opportunities to build relationships with humans from all backgrounds that are strongly rooted in trust, humility, respect, kindness, and compassion.

During the pandemic she was inspired to write her first children’s book. It is called The Great Global Pause and it is inspired by life on Earth in 2020. The book begins with a young child swimming in the ocean when Grandmother Turtle, named Keola, swims by. Keola invites the child on an underwater adventure, showing an abundance of healthy ocean life that began to flourish after the COVID-19 pandemic. The child shares their own perspective of what life was like for the humans during the restrictions and changes. They share a powerful conversation about the challenges and silver linings of this challenging time on Earth. They also share reflections  and wisdom about how to make the world a better place for the earth, the creatures, and the humans.
